Willenhall, West Midlands, 24th February 2015 – Award winning CS Labels today announced the upcoming arrival of a brand new digital label press, the Xeikon Cheetah. The press, being installed in March, is the most important advancement in digital print in 15 years and CS Labels has been selected as one of the UK pilot sites for the groundbreaking technology.
CS Labels are Europe’s largest printer to using Xeikon technology. The arrival of the Cheetah was welcomed as it will provide much needed extra capacity, increasing it by another third since their last announcement just six months ago. They now boast five leading edge Xeikon digital presses and have celebrated yet another year of record turnover and profitability.

The Xeikon Cheetah press is one of the fastest around with a printing speed of 30 metres per minute giving a maximum printed output of 594sqm/hr. It is 56% more productive than any other printer in the Xeikon portfolio operating full rotary printing in CYMK and white making it the most efficient digital press in its class.
Simon Smith, Managing Director, said: “I am delighted we have been selected to pioneer this technology and integrate it into our production portfolio. Over the past few years we have led the way when it comes to helping companies make the switch from traditional flexographic printing to digital, and this technology means that we can make even bigger inroads into a rapidly growing marketplace and changing landscape.
In our view digital hasn’t been seen as short run/high cost for some time now, quite simply those using flexographic printing methods are already making the switch and this opens up opportunities even further, for example in the FMCG arena. We have seen a real growth in demand for larger print runs, culminating with an order for 50,000 linear meters at the end of December 2014 which ended our next record breaking year on another high. The larger end clients are now au fait with what’s possible and this gives them even more confidence. Quite simply the technology will enable us to cope with increased demand and continue to deliver jobs quickly and accurately.”

CS Labels have consistently remained at the forefront of technology, and the Xeikon Cheetah will enable them to provide longer print runs as well as free up capacity. As regards other innovation the company is also now progressing its new product development offerings in the flexible packaging arena, in-line moulding and heat transfer printing. Further in-depth details will be announced at the Label and Print show tomorrow (details below).
The toner used on the Cheetah press derives from Xeikon’s ICE dry toner technology which is already used by CS Labels on their other presses. ICE is has many benefits, it works on heat sensitive substrates such as PE (Polyethylene) and Direct Thermal Labels and meets FDA regulations for food contact.

Filip Weymans, Director Segment Marketing Labels and Packaging at Xeikon said: “Selecting CS Labels as a flagship site was an easy decision. Their thought leadership and brave commitment to digital printing and packaging continues to pay off and I am pleased they are alongside us as we move into the next stage of the industry revolution”.
CS Labels are on stand K7 at the Label & Print Show (co-located with the Packaging Innovations Show and Em Pack) taking place at the Birmingham NEC, UK, tomorrow (25/26 February 2015).

ABOUT THE XEIKON CHEETAH: FASTEST DIGITAL LABEL PRINTING ANIMAL IN ITS CLASS

The Xeikon Cheetah has a top speed of 30 m/min (98 ft/min), 56% faster than any other model in its current press portfolio. The 1200 x 3600 dpi digital press is dedicated solely to the production of self-adhesive/pressure sensitive labels. It offers all the renowned benefits that make the Xeikon 3000 Series unique, including the use of dry toners that meet FDA regulations for food contact and the ability to print opaque white toner in one pass. It also enables printing on a variety of heat-sensitive substrates due to incorporation of Xeikon’s ICE toner technology which requires a much lower fusing temperature than typical toner-based presses. Xeikon presses are based on dry toner electro-photography. This enables the use of conventional substrates that do not have to be pre-treated. Extremely high toner light-fastness and truly eco-friendly printing (no VOCs) are some of the other industry leading features of the Xeikon presses for digital label and package printing. The presses offer easy integration of third-party workflow software and converting/finishing solutions and incorporate professional color management capabilities. In addition to the standard CMYK + White, the fifth station on the Xeikon Cheetah can be used to print gamut expansion colors or security toner. Media weights range from 40 gsm to 350 gsm.
