When digital printing self adhesive labels for food products, it is very important that you consider what type of toner you use for your food labels.

At CS Labels we recommend that if you choose dry toner for food labels, here are three reasons why.

Three Reasons Why You Should Choose Dry Toner For Self Adhesive Food Labels

  1. Dry Toner Is Reliable And Consistent!

Food labels and food packaging play an important role in not only providing a convenient packaging solution for food items, but they are also powerful marketing tools to attract customers.

You want to make sure that your product’s packaging looks at its best on the shop shelf and you also need to make sure that all of the important information is easily readable by a potential customer. As such, it is very important that you choose a reliable and consistent printing technique, such as dry toner printing.

  2. Unlikely To Migrate

One of the important concepts with regards to food safety is something known as “migration”. Migration is the transfer of substances from the packaging to the food contained inside.

Dry toner has numerous advantages over other technologies such as liquid toner with regards to food labels and food safety. For example, the colorant used to produce dry toner is a pigment, which isn’t considered a migrant. Also it is important to note that the pigment particles in dry toner are polyester resin, which has a high molecular mass; making it highly unlikely to migrate.

  3. Dry Toner Can Print On Standard Label Materials Without Primer!

With regards to inkjet printing using a UV curable inkjet, the ink is prone to penetrating paper substrates. This can be reduced with the use of a primer however this cannot overcome the issue. Additionally, a primer can increase the cost of printing. As such, using a dry toner which does not require a primer is often a more advantageous choice of primer with regards to printing food labels.
