Looking after our Staff and the Environment - CS Labels New Premises

As part of our acquisition of a shiny new purpose built manufacturing facility we are excited to be able to design the project pretty much from the ground up. This means we are able to enhance existing practices as well as integrate some new ones, so that we can continue to be on top of our game when it comes to looking after our customers.

We operate a holistic view of business, and caring for our staff and for the environment is a genuine concern and always has been. This is both internally at our manufacturing facility, and externally as our products are released into the market. 

We selected Xeikon as our digital print press partner of choice in 2008 not only because of its excellent engineering and forward thinking technological approach but because Xeikon presses are some of the most environmentally friendly in the entire marketplace. From a wellbeing point of view, we’ve always done the very best we can for our staff, based on the surroundings we have at the time. We were ISO 14001 accredited in 2014 but have always wanted to do more and have felt rather constrained due to the pre-set building we’ve called home since 2004.

Our thinking caps are always on, and the team have been brainstorming as to how we can make the absolute most of our new home when we move there in the early summer this year.

Here’s what we’ve done so far:

  • In 2017 we offered staff the cycle to work scheme. 10% of the staff now enjoy this benefit. We hope we can double the take up with improved facilities including a bike shed, improved security with CCTV protection, larger locker facilities for staff, and shower facilities.

  • Improved LED lighting which will not only provide better quality light but will require less energy to run.

  • State-of-the-art natural lighting in both office and factory contributing to improved staff welfare.

  • Improved ventilation in factory for cleaner air, and air flow ventilation in the offices which will bring in air from the outside – recent studies have shown that cleaner air can enhance staff productivity and wellbeing.

  • Air conditioning for the summer months.

  • Improved insulation – we’ll use much less energy and also create more pleasant working conditions. In particular our factory floor temperature will see a marked improvement.

  • Improved staff facilities including a completely new larger rest room area, chill out zones, and improved catering facilities.

  • Significant waste management improvements. By having space to sort, process and store waste material we can make significant strides to achieve our ultimate objective of zero manufacturing waste to landfill. Further announcements will follow...

  • Over the coming year we intend to look at alternative energy supplies – eg solar power.

  • Improve on our already slick and creative work flow processes to continue to reduce waste and unnecessary cost.

The development and launch of a new official staff welfare and wellbeing policy to concentrate on the physical and mental care of our fantastic employees- watch this space.

We are so pleased to be able to keep providing a work environment where staff can work comfortably, safely and productively and we will continue to develop a workplace where wellbeing is at the centre of the culture - including the environment, our policies and working practices. We look forward to realising the above objectives we will endeavour to make some significant strides in coming months.
