Have you ever noticed that some warning labels have a raised triangle, noticeable to the touch as well as the eye? These are called tactile warning triangles. They there to bring attention to a printed warning symbol.

The European Chemicals Agency provides further information regarding labelling and packaging with regards to warning triangles. They include a list of criteria for hazardous materials that require tactile warnings. Some of the criteria includes but is not limited to:

  • Acute toxicity,
  • Skin corrosion,
  • Respiratory sensitisation,
  • Carcinogenicity,
  • Reproductive toxicity,
  • Flammable gases,
  • Flammable liquids,
  • Flammable solids.

When Should They Be Used On Labels?
